DESCRIPTION / TASTING NOTE

Made from a blend of mostly Tempranillo with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this 'really amazing' (WA) new wine is so utterly delicious now that it is hard to resist but for those who want to wait, Anson gives it a giving window up to 2038.

ABOUT PRODUCER

The Yllera family has a long history of winemaking in Spain's Ribera del Duero but their new project Vivaltus is already their crowning achievement in only its first ever vintage.

A wine that will 'soon be an important name in Ribera del Duero' in the eyes of Wine Advocate's Luis Gutiérrez, the barnstorming success of the Vivaltus 2016 can partly put down the estate bringing on legendary consultant Jean-Claude Berrouet, winemaker at Château Pétrus for 40 years. Tim Atkin MW praises Berrouet's influence, stating that even given his 'distinguished track record', this really is 'a remarkable wine'.

Scoring a huge 97 points from Tim Atkin MW, 96 points from the Wine Advocate and 96 points from Jane Anson, the Vivaltus 2016 comes from some of the highest vineyards in Ribera del Duero, up to 1,000 metres above sea level, that impart an incredible level of nuance and elegance in the wine. Their vines averaging 80 years of age, and some over 100 years old, they add so much 'complexity' (JA) to this Vivaltus 2016.
