SUB REGION : Maipo Valley
CLASSIFICATION :
SIZE : 750 ML
RATING : RP 93 , Vivino 4.5
The 2016 El Principal Andetelmo is quite in line with what I tasted from 2013, also a cooler and rainier vintage. This time it's a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot that shows good integration and balance. It has Maipo character with a minty and balsamic twist and a polished palate with a medium to full body and fine tannins. It's powerful yet elegant and balanced.

DESCRIPTION / TASTING NOTE
El Principal is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah originating from old, ungrafted vines. Deep, intense ruby red, black fruit and cassis aromas, well-integrated woody notes, great structure and balance. Ripe and present tannins, elegant and sophisticated in the mouth, a pure expression of the terroir.
ABOUT PRODUCER
Winery was founded in 1993 by partners Jorge Fontaine Aldunate, owner of the El Principal estate, and the late Jean Paul Valette, French winemaker and former owner of the famous Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Pavie in Saint-Émilion. Main goal was to produce a line of wines of the highest quality that would reflect the spirit and typicity of Chilean terroir, as well as the Valette family’s tradition and experience of making fine wines. It gained international recognition as one of Chile’s ultra premium wines, reinforcing Chile’s potential as a denomination of origin for high-end wines.
